DVR Options

TiVo has been the standard for digital video recording but there are competitors on the block.

Cable TV providers now offer digital video recorders built into their cable converters for in some markets a measly ten extra dollars a month.

Satellite can be another option, as satellite providers take their cue from cable and include digital video recording capabilities in the receiver.

Then there are the stand alone dvr’s you can purchase at your large discount electronics stores.  When this option involves recording onto a DVD disc, unfortunately it is just like your VCR, with onsite media and a programming sequence that could make your viewing life difficult.

If you opt for a dvr with a hard drive however, you are coming closer to TiVo’s simplicity and flexibility. Or fire up your PC and make use of Microsoft’s Media Center Edition OS. A ton of choices to make choosing what to watch even more difficult.
