The final word on DVD based digital video recorders
Determine what will be the primary purpose for your DVD recorder. If it is a simple recording of The Simpson's, a less expensive model will do the trick. If there will be multiple recordings on differing stations, you will need an IR blaster.
If you are going to be archiving old VHS tapes, look for a unit that includes a VCR. If burning disks of your home videos is important, make sure the unit has a firewire capability for video transfer, plus some editing capabilities. Hard drive storage will also make your final video more appealing. If you can hang on for another year or so, wait for the BD units for larger storage and better quality.
