Prototype methanol powered wheelchair
A methanol powered wheelchair is in the works at Suzuki Motors.
They have a prototype chair that will use methanol fuel cells and are calling it the new Seniorcar Mio wheelchair. With speeds of almost 25 miles per hour, the Mio will use about a gallon of methanol in cartridges that will be easily replaceable…perhaps like the propane tanks we use in grilling?
Reports are that there will not be any electric charge necessary…just the mix of oxygen and methanol to get the chair going. It looks a little Fischer Price-ish, but if it works and is sturdy enough, there will be a market. You can see the Mio when Suzuki unveils it at their exhibition at the Big Sight Center.
