Personal Injury Protection or PIP and Medical Payments Insurance
This has to do with the costs for treating those who were injured in your car and can cover lost wages or services of an injured person. PIP takes the medical payments insurance further and can include broader expenses such as the cost of a funeral, babysitting while in the hospital or the tried and true "pain and suffering".
Many "no fault" insurance states require PIP protection. Be sure to check your own state's requirements by searching on the web for "auto insurance laws and requirements". Look at your own personal and family medical coverage and you may find that any auto insurance medical payments premium is redundant.
