Leaf Blower Safety

When using a gas leaf blower keep in mind that the fuel can pose some safety issues.

  • Check the manual for the right fuel to oil mix.
  • If you happen to slop some gas when filling, make sure you wipe the machine before using
  • If you have to add gas in the middle of a job, turn off the engine and let it cool before adding more gas. Then loosen the gas cap slowly to relieve pressure and then when the tank is full, tighten the cap again.
  • Start the machine away from the fuel container.
  • Don't smoke when refueling
  • Don't allow kids to operate the machine.

And for any leaf blower use...

  • Don't point the blower at people when it is operating. Flying debris can hit eyes quite easily.
  • Don't use the leaf blower inside nor while you are on a ladder or roof.
  • Use goggles, ear plugs or ear muffs and work gloves. If it is dry outside wear a dust mask.
