To save money you can use mdf or even plywood but it better be strong enough to bear the load of your kitchen comestibles and dishes, pots and pans. The front of the frame should match your doors, as it will be seen at least when the doors are open. Any side of the cabinet that you will see should also either be wood or covered with wood veneer to match the rest of the system.

And don’t neglect your appliances when thinking cabinets. Your fridge or dishwasher can usually accommodate custom panels that match your cabinets for a seamless look in your brand spanking new kitchen.

Your cabinets are virtually on display 24/7 so make sure they look good, but they need to perform as well, so go the extra mile with quality in materials and construction.
