Do you kill them for their fur, or is it like a sheep and you shave them?? They get shaved in April/May. Have to get rid of those heavy winter coats before it gets too warm.

Isee. What does a shaved one bring to the table monetarily speaking?? I'm sorry Bill, but I don't know the answer to that. I'm not that friendly with the neighbors that I feel comfortable asking.

They can bring a load of dough for the right genetics:
Over President's Day Weekend 2005, a World Record was set for the highest selling Alpaca. In Phoenix, Arizona two farms partnered to purchase a 3/4 Peruvian, 1/4 Chilean white herd sire, Snowmass Invincible. The record setting price was $580,000!
Of particular interest, the average selling price of the 52 lots was $62,600 with the average price for females coming in at $52,000.
