Lower your energy costs with these tips

If you used the word “Yikes” or something approximating it when you opened your electric bill last month, here are some handy dandy tips to lower your electric costs.

Set your washer’s water temp as low as you can to save energy. Most laundry will clean in cold. Reserve the hot water for the oil stains and the like or the bed linens. The rinse never has to be anything but cold.

And make sure your wash load is full…no need spending money on water for two small loads when one large one will do.

When you spin, make sure it’s the fastest cycle so there will be less time spent in the dryer. And while we are talking dryer, use the automatic setting rather than the timer. It’s better to have to push that button for a few more minutes than over dry and even potentially shorten the life of your clothing with too much heat.

Don’t forget the filter either. Make sure you clean it before you start the next load. Hey if it helps keep the energy costs down…
