Date: 7/2007 approx.  James Dyson interviewed and demos his "Airblade" on ABC's "Money Matters".  ABC only posted this video for a few weeks before removing.  But this video seems to be back up and onlne.  View it while you can before it is removed once more.  If video does not load and play in your browser, try hitting refresh one or more times to load.

Love the ad/demo of the DC17, to me this is the successor to the DC07 (UK) which was and is the most powerful Dyson Upright they have done in the UK!  Wish I UK version of the DC17 would be launched

Hi DIB

Cool Airblade video! I'm going to a Grand Design Live show in the UK this weekend and there is going to be a Dyson stand with the Airblade on show in use and a DC18 Slim being put through its paces with a robotic arm which they use to do some of their tersting!  Can't wait!  I'm wondering what else they may have there, might see the DC16 Animal!

DC07 Pink, has that not been out before?  We had some charity versions over hear, the canister version for one never came out!  Don't know why?  Not heard since, was a few years ago now!

Well the DC07 Pink certainly raises awareness and helps towards the cause, what better way to make people aware of Breast Cancer week!

I don't own a video cam but I will certainly take pictures unless I'm told otherwise!  I will let you have a copy of them.  This is the first event I've been to that Dyson is there.  When I've been to home shows etc in the past Dyson has not been present, not sure why!

If I watch Callie in person, I will have to buy another dyson!  I might have to set the DVR and watch.

It turned out, Dyson was the "Today Special".  HSN said they sold 12 thousand units from 12 midnight to 12 noon.  The model was not mentioned.        DIB

I tuned in for just one segment in between the football games.  No Callie.  Just the dyson guy and dog Cruiser.  And Chris from HSN [not too bad on the eyes either].  DC21 cann for $399 with 5 installment payments of $80.  30 day return guarantee if unsatisfied.  Expected to sell 1000 in the 30 minutes, but had already sold a number prior to the viewing.

Of note, no hyping about dysons never clogging and losing suction.  Once very prominent in the HSN TV demos and even the testimonials by the callers.  Not part of the TV sales pitch anymore.

I would have preferred the demo if Chris from HSN did it.  Not the dyson guy.  Why?  Easy for a dyson guy to demo and show the ease of use.  More convincing if done by Chris, a housewife and user.

I watched the DC21 segments only.  I was shocked to see the hostess strong arm the canister and pick it up as a unit (with the pn too) and hold it perpendicular, with one arm while standing.  Strong lady.  You are right, I'd like to see the shows host/hostess use the products themselves more but they very rarely do (even with other vac brands).

Carmine,  did you hear the woman caller profess her love for Dyson DC21 and that she cannot believe how much it picks up?  She said she owned 2 Rainbow's in the past but will never use em again.

People want Dyson's, but usually at a deal.  HSN said they sold over to 1300 DC21's in 1 hour.

Hi DIB:

As I recall, she didn't say the brand name save that she paid $2000 for each, twice?  Sounds like she had a real thing for the sales man.

Just to set a frame of reference:  Consumer Reports rates dyson's DC21 a "GOOD" on carpets, "EXCELLENT" on barefloors, and "GOOD" on pet hair.  While the Rainbow gets a "FAIR" for carpets, "VERY GOOD" on barefloors, and "VERY GOOD" on pet hair.  There are 16 canns from $170 to $1500 that out score dyson's DC21.  Rainbow comes in below dyson.

You may recall that the HSN staff [2 ladies] demo'ed the DIRT DEVIL "Kruz."  And couldn't stop using it.  I bought and used one and found it okay as a straight suction cordless stick.  My dear Wife, daughter, and 2 grand daughters love using it.  THo, its 8 pounds, it cascades over floors effortlessly.  And does pick up.  With a nice size dirt cup.

Dyson celebrates 3 years with/on HSN today.  I guess this means HSN will refrain from promoting Hoover’s Fusion along with piling on and bashing Dyson’s price points too (as it has often and shamelessly done in the past).

The HOOVER YouTube Powermax Fusion demo on HSN is very impressive.  It is one of the best TV vacuum demoes I've seen in recent months.  Clearly matching HOOVER's FUSION against the higher priced HSN bagless brand on a dollar for dollar and best in value comparison without citing the other 's name.  Takes about 21 minutes to view.  Of particular note, at the end of the clip is a synopsis of the other vacuum products airing/aired on HSN with the number of viewings.  Look at the views for the HOOVER vacuum products vice the other brand.  HOOVER wins out by many powers of 10.  Not an indication of sales success per se.  Certainly if someone is interested in buying a product, they will more likely be apt to view it.   So perhaps there is a direct relationship between views and sales.  Worth watching and buying for $ 119 with free shipping.

What happened to the DC22?  The dealer dyson?  Didn't it launch at the 2009 VDTA way back in the beginning of the year.  Haven't heard anymore about it!   Best kept secret in the vacuum industry so far this year.

..and the rumoured self-propelled Dyson? The route prototype to testing to production can be long and unpredictable.
That's why many companies official line is to keep things hush hush until it's about to be available in the stores.

Many canisters sell late night/early AM.  The Airmuscle should go on air early too, so the demo can be practiced and readied for the later and larger viewership's.

Hi Ace,

HSN had listed Dyson as selling last night and today, since the DC28 and DDM DC22 are now on HSN’s web pages (not the Dyson page) I assumed they were being debuted.  They were not.

DC28:

Hey DIB:

It's certainly not the first time here that your assumptions/posts about HSN launching dyson's latest and greatest were wrong.  Quite the contrary, it's been routine for you and HSN/dyson for the last few years.  I've grown tired of hearing the news only to see an HSN clearsnce sale on discontinued dyson products.   Face it DIB, you're offically out of the dyson loop.

As I recall the DDM 22 was supposed to be a dealer dyson??  Only nobody told the dealers!

Lots of bad, wrong, erroneous dyson info getting promulgated here on the Forum time and time again.  What's wrong?

Ahh the dc28,the Dyson king of the hill machine.

Lets see its still 20 plus lbs.

still can not get under anything in real homes.

will seal itself to higher pile carpeting

the normal everyday consumer will over adjust the brush and head, causing big prblems right off the bat.

the attachments look very similar to bissels.

This should be the straw that breaks the camels back.

Great job guys [you have done it again]

I watched the HSN clip.  Takes about 25 minutes.  Very disappointing demoes and pitches.  Gone are the grandiose praises of dyson sales.  Dave had difficulty with picking up some of the materials he spread on th carpets.  Boasting one pass pick up and after several passes w/o luck said the materials must have "static charge."  Welcome to the real world Dave.

He cheated on the dirt bin for the demoes.  After picking up peanuts and popcorn with the attachments to the max fill [supposedly], he went w/o dumping the bin to the carpets.  Look closely.  The bin contents were not close to the max line.  Way below.  Obviously the fall off in air watts on this model require the fudging.

Dave couldn't get the bare floor clean under the HSN chair in the upright mode.  So for demo purposes had to convert to attachments and resort to the flat out tool.  ORECK would have gotten under in a heart beat.  He says dyson can't get 'low profile' cleaning in upright mode.  Truth be told from seeing is that is not low profile for most of today's uprights.  HOOVER TEMPO would have gotten it just as easily as an ORECK.  WT too.

Helen [a new lovely HSN face/personality] made some errors.  Says this dyson technology is new and exclusive to HSN.  Not quite Helen.  It's been in BEST BUY stores for over a month.  Dave didn't correct her?  That's your job Dave.  You are the dyson man.  [Tho these are not selling from what I hear].  She repeated the error several times.  Dave let her go.  Shame on you.

Helen made it clear that this is not the HSN launch for DC28.  She said HSN is trying to sell some first so when it does launch [no time given by Dave and Helen]  there will be some callers in with product affirmations.  No more can they use the old dyson stand bys.  Dave makes it clear this airmuscle technology is exclusive to this dyson product.  There were no call ins today and no sales made.  None.   Price: 4 flex payments of $149 with free shipping.  $599.

Poster's opinion:  Dyson Dave lost his dyson zeal.  He needs to go.

Several on-line dyson dealers are already discounting the DC28 at $529.  One is posting on the side banner here on this page.  That won't sit well with the claims of HSN's exclusive status especially with HSN pricing at $599.  Let the dyson dealer price wars begin!

Dave is not the problem.  He has great enthusiasm, he has a great history to draw from (and tell) of selling door-to-door hyped and expensive vacuums.  He is a James Dyson fan and supporter of better inventions.  He should stay as long as this keeps coming thru!  His integrity is far and above that of Hoover’s Julie Truster.   He’s far more knowledgeable and enthusiastic than the Bissell rep too.  Of the three-Dyson, Hoover and Bissell...  Dave is the best.  The Dyson corp and messaging is run from the top down like many corps.  Dave (an HSN rep) is NOT RESPONSIBLE for the Dyson messaging, he is responsible for delivering this Dyson messaging.  Dyson is not even broadcasting (messaging) and celebrating their worlds only and worlds best separation technologies-the DDM w/ Core + Root separators.  Having a separator vacuum with 4-7 years of guaranteed no-clogging filtration is HUGE and UNTOUCHABLE BY COMPETITORS, yet Dyson isn’t exploiting it.

You're not honest.  You must have watched the HSN video with dyson color glasses.  The demo was very disappointing and filled with errors and/or outright lies which Dave let pass several times w/o correction.

The reason dyson has eliminated HSN prime view times, TV product spots, and printed product ads is due to MONEY!  He's [dyson] is bleeding cash daily.  He can't afford to pay high priced engineers [average yearly salary of dyson engineers is in the 6 figure numbers], in-house lawyers and for hire lawyers on retainers, unprofitable/ unrealized  R&D costs and advertising expenses too.  Hence dyson products skipped the Oscars and conceded defeat to HOOVER!

Declining vacuum sales and market share globally for the past year and some.  Dave no longer boasts dyson as the top seller in dollar sales as he once did in the past.

The dishonesty and quantity of dishonesty title is yours.  It’s oh so easy and has been oh so easy to disprove your rock-throwing of Dyson claims as unprovable.  It sounds like (reads like) you’re a slave to Dyson-jealousy (a condition of many wannabe garage tinkerer bad mouthing-of-Dyson dealers and enthusiasts).

Feel free to begin backing up your rock-throwing, anti-Dyson diatribes with facts.

Sure [HSN] Dave did and did not say things during his debuting the radically different and new vacuum with its many new technologies, and so what?-It proves nothing.  The late night time-slot debut is mostly practice anyhow.  Nice try.

Hello turtle1:

DIB, like James, suffers from dyson insecurity syndrome.  James and dyson have to elevate dyson by bashing and attacking the competition.  Can't succeed on its own merits.  That's the dyson play book.  DIB is the first one to point call out others when they do it to dyson but can't see it when dyson has been doing it for years.  I have often quoted scripture to DIB:  Telling him [dyson] to remove the log from his own eye before criticizing the splinter in the eye of others.

The late night product spots are the cheap slots!  No viewers.  No call ins.  No sales.  Period.  Practice?  Maybe for Helen.  Dave should know this stuff by now.  Shouldn't have to practice.  Tho, as I said the demo was very disappointing.  Dave should go.

DC28 hasn't debutted officially yet on HSN.  This was not it.  As Helen said, lovely lady that she is, HSN is trying to make a few sales first so when it does launch there are some dyson persons [other than dyson shills] to call in with product affirmations.  Wait until the HSN dyson buyers find out that there is a prcing war on the DC28 and its not an HSN exclusive.  That should be real good for dyson and HSN's business agreements and sales.

After thinking on this for a bit, I'm concerned that the reason dyson Dave couldn't pick up the materials he spread out on the rug in one [and even more passes] is the reason Procare and MOLE provided.  Sealed to tightly to the rug.

Our carpets, the majority have a plastic moisture barrier to keep water from going through because of hot water extraction. In the earlier carpets they breath due to jute back carpeting. That is why older Kirby s could seal to the floor and clean , today they need air openings to let airflow.

                                                                                                                            Procare

When I demoed dyson's DC28 at BEST BUY store, the carpetting is their run of the mill flat line pile.  Not typical of what is found in US homes and houses.  Dyson may have an expensive red herring on his hands with this one and perhaps that is the reason for the price wars, since the dyson twins have ignored the questions.

Hello Ace:

The crux of Dave's premise/pitch is that the new dyson airmuscle technology gets more deep down dirt, period.  All the rest is fluff.  Never did he provide evidence to prove this premise.  He made a very feeble attempt by running over an unvacuumed portion of the carpet and showing what the DC28 picks up.  Not good enough.  Any vacuum will do this.

When I demoed the DC28 at BEST BUY, I dumped a dyson display dirt bin and spread out and walked the contents into the carpet.  Using the default setting of medium [wrong choice by dyson], I vacuumed up the contents.  Didn't get it all in one pass/two.  The remains were vsibly present on the surface.  Imagine the imbedded unseen stuff still lingering.  I lowered the rug setting and tried again.  Much better.  But the drawback is the hard pushing and pulling.  Now, this is the traditional flat line BB pile rug.  Not the norm for US homes.  Upgrade the pile a tad.  What happens?  Again, as others like MOLE and Procare noted here, the tendency of the airmuscle components to seal the nozzle to the rug.  Not only hard to puch/pull but doesn't get up the dirt.

Thanks Ace.

Have you signed up for HSN's product message alerts?  Although they do not inform if a launch is pending.  I'm not looking forward to Dyson not touting is "worlds best" vacuum filtration.  An early reviewer (editor/mag contributor) wrote and said he was baffled as to $700-$800 price tag (DC22).  Having NIB-like or keeping 100% suction strength (No Loss of Suction) and no filter washing for 4-7 years (under normal use) is a HUGE BREAKTHRU and is something peoplw want to buy.  Only Dyson is not telling them.

I suspect the price will come down after a year.  When the DC23 was launched, it was sold for $749.  Now the MSRP is $599.  I suspect after a year, the DC22 will be closer to the $600 range.  AAAvacs.com is selling the DC22 Turbinehead/Motorhead for $499/$599, respectively.

I have been using a DC22 for a week now, and it really seems to eliminate any dust bypass , even though a little bit of sands gets through.  Very little dust bypasses the core separator, which tells me it's doing almost all of the particle separating.

I told you so: the DC22 DDM cann is the best kept secret in the vacuum industry in 2009.  Not a waord about it from anyone in the industry.  It's done a Claude Rains since its launch at the VDTA in Feb 2009.  Invisible!

If little bits of sand get through, more can/will.  As pointed out, if the cyclones are overwhelmed [read have to over work themselves to separate more than average loads of input], the filtration effectiveness falls off.

The DDM DC22 label reads wash every 3 months - while on high speed?  Hmmm...

The pre-launch information I received simply echoed what was previously said at the Japanese launch, it’s packaging and what is advertised online at Dyson Japan.

Hi Dib,

Canadian box shows no mention of filter cleaning intervals.  The stickers on the unit and the included instruction manual both state both filters be cleaned every 3 months under normal conditions, more frequently if being used for fine dust.  This said, having run the machine around the store for the past couple weeks the filters are still spotless.

DIB:

Have the indies who sell dyson had to correct you again here:  3 months for washing cycles on the pre-motor filters in the DDM DC22 doesn't even come close to 4-7 years that you bragged for this model.  As the number one advocate for dyso, you're burying it into a huge sink hole.  Looks like that neighbor of yours botched up the Japanese translation on the DDM DC22 box as bad as the Congo questioner for poor Mrs. Clinton.  What the box says is wash 4 times a year/every 3 months.  Somebody added the two numbers to get 7?  That's funny!

The mistake is obvious.  Check out the filter maintenace on the DC30/31 with DDM.  No outlandish claims about cleaning 4-7 years.

DIB, stop worrying about the indies here and start doing your dyson research and homework and get it right at least once in moon.

Looks like the old dyson ball DC15 for $499 shared center stage with the HOOVER steam cleaner Dual V.  Both models are over 5 years old and have been around for ions.  HSN must have found an unknown inventory in one of its remote warehouse locations for products that didn't sell the first 100 times around.

Because even DYSON knows its a fairytale, just another selling feature or scam to justify the rediculous prices, Hes already been put to shame by the other testing concerns for submitting false claims.

They let dyson off the hook that time, maybe this time they will nail him to the floor for it.

Hey has anyone heard about the dc11 comeback,It uses a whole new technology behind it,A CLOTH SKAKE OUT BAG,AND THE FILTERS ONLY HAVE TO BE CHANGED EVERY 7 YEARS,AND THE SUCTION AND AIRFLOW IS 5 TIMES BETTER THAN WITH THE SILLY CYCLONE SET UP.

How do you like my stories D.I.B. Can i be hired as a consultant now.

Hi Dusty,

If the non-DDM had a re-worked DDM nozzle (so to draw in more air) I bet the vacuum would filter significantly better than advertised.

Problem is DIB, MOLE knows the difference when he posts about dyson and its products.  You don't.

Hey DIB:

Talk about bets.  Did you say for the last year that the DDM DC22 has a 4-7 year filter cleaning schedule.  Wanna bet its more like every 3 months?

After one year exclusivity at Sam's Club, dyson's DC27 for $479 has 8, count them, 8 reviews with a 4 out of 5 stars.  Big hit!  Not.  Maybe HSN can bail dyson out on the DC27, a regurgitated DC17.
