I bought my 824 new in Nov 2001 from a local HD. I tried to buy from a local dealer, but all were sold out. I got it for 989-10% for opening a hd charge. I have had it since and could never say enough good things about the power of the machine, and it's build quality. I have had the drive upgraded(under warranty by a dealer) to deal with a design problem(it now has what's called the R3 drive) but other than that i have had no problems with the machine. As it was a HD machine it required some adjustment after the first couple uses, all of which i did by the manual. The machine has proven to be a true performer, always allowing me to clear my drive, walks, neighbors drives(when thier machines broke) and paths for my dog in the yard at seemingly whatever pace i wanted. In fact, i have more than once been able to hit and exceed the 50' throwing distance, and never have to worry about clearing the driveway. What would take an hour or more to clear with a shovel takes 15min with my 824. All around its a good, solid, dependable machine that in 3 winters of service has become my favorite piece of OPE. It's big, it's heavy, it's loud, and it tears the snow up without hesitation.

Date Purchased: 11-2001
Price Paid: $890
Recommend: Yes
Pros:
-Very solid build(machine weighs in at 250+ pounds)
All steel construction(say what you want about polymers, but i'll take my metal, thanks)

-Control interlock

-Light

-Electric start

-Quick turn chute rotation

Cons:
-Metal chute rattles at full throttle, no load, could use a big acryllic or plastic bushing between chute and body

-HD assembly was rough, machine was not run in

-Some people may have a hard time turning the thing if both wheels are locked to the axle(i don't)
