Best use of portable air conditioners
The rising cost of energy plus the possibility of energy restrictions this summer has encouraged sales of portable air conditioners. Some distributors are noting a 25% leap in sales. When we say portable AC units, we’re not talking about the heavy guys that sit in your window, but AC units that are on rollers, vent via a hose attached to a window in the room being cooled. The idea is that with central air conditioning you spend bucks cooling rooms that have no occupants and essentially do not require cooling. In this budget sensitive time, that is a no-no.
Portable air conditioners come in dual hose and single hose options, with a variety of BTU sizes, and even heaters. The maintenance may include regularly emptying a container that has received condensing water from the air.
The higher capacity units that will cool your high ceilinged great room may also require more sophisticated wiring and therefore the hiring of an electrician. These portable units may not be the most attractive end table in the interior design world, but they do the trick.
