Increasing Tip Speed On Craftsman Tractor
#1   Jun 7, 2006 8:32 pm
I've got a Craftsman lawn tractor Model 917.272751. I'd like to replace the mandrel pullies to a smaller size , or the motor pulley to a larger size to increase the blade tip speed  so I can do a decent job in 4th or 5th gear and get done in a decent amount of time. Can anyone give me some advise on this? I'm looking to boost tip speed by 20 -25%. I think the mandrel pullies are splined. Anyone know where I can get smaller diameter splined pullies that would fit or are the odds better on getting a larger motor pulley(double pulley0. I believe these Craftsman are generic maybe some interchange with Murray? Also how do you measure the outer dia. of pullies? From the bottom of the V groove or to the outer edge of the pulley. Thanks Rich B.

These bolts seem to be fastened very tightly s there a trick to removing them?  Do you mount the disk in a vice ? do you need an impact wrench?
REMOVING CONNECTING LINK FROM CHAIN - ARIENS SNOWBLOWER 1970
#3   Apr 2, 2006 7:12 pm
I'm trying to remove the chain from my 1970 ariens snowblower. How do you do this? I can see that the connecting  link  retainer can be spread apart slightly , but I'm not sure if you push the pin thru while it's slightly spread apart or if you remove the link somehow.  Is the retainer reusable? At this point I'm using 2 screwdrivers to spread the retainer just slightly. It seems if you use only one screwdriver the retainer is not fully disengaged from the groove in the pin. Am I on the right path or is ther another technique.  Thanks Rich B.
DIAGNOSING ENGINE CONDITION FROM SPARK PLUG
#4   Jan 16, 2006 9:57 am
Tecumseh HM 100. My plug insulator is black like it's running rich ,buti t's not a sooty deposit. It's slightly oily and has what appear to be bits of semi hard carbon peppered around the interior of the plug and insulator. The exaust is not smokey. Any idea what engine condition would cause the plug to look this way? Thanks RDB
Big Spark at kill switch
#5   Jan 8, 2006 12:30 pm
I went to turn off my Tec 80 , I lowered the throttle lever down to the kill switch and there were lots of sparks. I went to restart nothing, no spark . I had just replaced the points ,condenser, and coil .  I connected it just the way I took it out. First start with the new components was ok. Turned it off and now no spark. Any ideas?  Thanks
