Rick,

Yep, the 24" machine definitely fits the "Can I get my car past it?" criteria.

I was looking at huge 32" and 36" Arien monsters.  You know, because of  "More Power!" [Insert Tim the Toolman grunting here].

Glad I went with the 24", because no way I could sneak my car past those beasts in the garage.

We just had 8" of kind icy snow a week ago.  I motored through it in 4th Gear.  You can definitely haul ass with the small cut size.

The motor never sounded like it was straining until I got to the end of the driveway and gobbled down some "Plowcrete".  It lowered pitch...then proceeded to throw that nasty snow 30'.  Heh.

Since I still have the photo in my photobucket account:

You can see it only intrudes into the garage parking space by about 6".

I'm digging it so far!

Rick,

Sorry to hear about the SNAFU.  I just bought a John Deere 924DE, which is really an Ariens 924DLE...if they made one back in 2002.

I think you're going to be pleasantly surprised once it snows again.  This sucker definitely throws the snow.  I really like the 9hp/24" cut configuration.

The entire unit is the same width, from the auger housing, to the tires, to the handlebars.  Not to mention with the smaller cut size the motor is more than enough for anything that goes in there...*grin*

Good luck and I'm glad to hear it wasn't anything too major.

Hey,

It's a 2002 John Deere 924DE:

Just got it off Ebay for cheap, only about 10 hours on it.  Set the scraper height, greased the chain, gears, discharge chute, axles, augers, new gas, new oil, and waxed it up!  Now I just have to wait for some snow...

The previous owner of the house left me a Craftsman 5hp/22" cut snowblower.  It was okay, but had issues with the harder/icier snow.  I got tired of shoveling and Santa came to the rescue.

Now, from what I've read here, this is an Ariens 924DLE.  I'm looking to buy some spare parts for it, but need to find out the equivalent Ariens part number.  Can someone IM or Email me their serial number so I can download the Ariens manual?

If not, can you tell me the Ariens' part number for the scraper blade, and the belts?  I've got the shoes and shear pins handled.

Thanks and have a Happy New Year!

Kevin "Bring it, Old Man Winter!"
