Apple G4
Original Message   Mar 3, 2005 11:04 am
I don't know anything about Apples, except I would like to try one out.

I found an old used G4, is this worth wasting my money on, just to play with??

PROCESSOR $55.00
POWERMAC G4 400MHZ 256MB RAM 18.5GB HARD DRIVE W/CD/DVD DRIVE

Thanks for your opinions.

Congrats Emmo,
Sounds like a good deal to me..........
I thought almost all monitors worked with an Apple G4.......just like any monitor would work with a new Mac mini.
Tom would know more than I on that.
I would want to know what version OS it is running.....OS9 or OS X, although for that price just grab it.
Check out other G4 towers on ebay if you are not sure, but for that low price, I'd say grab it.

The G5's have only been out for around a year or so......G4's are not by any means "old".
I am using a 1 gig G4 imac right now with 768 DDR ram , and I'm sure it will serve my family well for years to come.
People keep Mac's longer then PeeCee people do.

If you find you like it, perhaps sticking another stick of ram in there would not hurt.

The Hard drive is a bit small, but if you are just surfing the web, e-mailing, some word doc's, etc, it should be fine.
My son does a lot of video editing and graphic stuff, so he needs a lot of Hard drive space.

Any one of those components would cost you more than $55.00

Tom could help you here more then I.....
If you don't like it, we'll take it off your hands....

Thanks for all the help but I was too slow getting there and its gone.  They told me they do get these from time to time and to keep checking back.

Hopefully next time I'll move faster now that I know its worthwhile.

Thanks!
