5 Super Smart Tips to Maintain Your Vacuum Cleaner
Original Message   Aug 10, 2017 2:00 am
Your vacuum cleaner does a lot to ensure cleanliness and prevention of bad smells in your house. That’s why it is not just an equipment but it is an important investment that you make for the cleaning needs of your house. So, you need to ensure proper care and maintenance of your vacuum cleaner to get the maximum value from your investment. It will not only let you save on your repair costs but will also do a lot to ensure its efficiency.

There is a lot that you can do to get your vacuum cleaner working like a new and for your convenience, here we are mentioning the smart maintenance tips for your vacuum cleaner.

Check and replace bags on regular basis
The vacuum cleaners have bags which they use to store dirt, dust, and debris collected during the cleaning process. Once this bag gets full, you should dispose it and use a new one. So, you need to check your vacuum’s bag regularly and should replace it before it gets fully filled. It is because as the bag fills, the efficiency of the machine reduces. In the case you use the bag even after it is full, it will not only create a mess but the machine would also be at risk.

Empty your bagless vacuum after every use
The bagless vacuum cleaners come with the removable bin to store the debris. This bin is fixed in the front of the device. You need to empty this bin on regular basis and as most of the models feature transparent bin, you can easily see when it gets full. Though most of the people empty the bin when it gets full, you are recommended to empty it prior to every use as it will ensure the optimal efficiency of the machine.

Avoid using conventional vacuum cleaner on wet surfaces
The conventional vacuum cleaners are not designed to work on the wet surfaces, so, you should avoid using them on such surfaces. In the case the water penetrates in the machine, it can lead to short circuit and can destroy the fan. Even there are the chances of happening more damage to the machine. In the case, you often need to clean wet/moist surface with the vacuum cleaner, you should go for a wet/dry vacuum cleaner.

Clean the filters
Clean your vacuum cleaner’s filters at least once in a month. Unplug the machine, remove the attachments and clean its filters. You can clean the attachments with the wet cloth or can use a detergent while the filters can be rinsed thoroughly with water. You can refer to your vacuum cleaner’s instruction manual to know how and how often you should clean the filters.

Remove debris from the brush roll
Over the time, the debris and certain items like hair, floss, etc. get wrapped around the roll and prevent it from spinning properly. So, to keep your vacuum cleaner running properly, you must remove the debris from the brush roll, on a frequent basis.

Replacing a vacuum cleaner is expensive; you can cut these expenses by arranging just a few minutes for its maintenance. And the above-given tips will definitely help you to ensure deep cleaning and proper maintenance of your vacuum cleaner.

I just want to reiterate the importance of filter maintenance. Most vacuums will have two filters, one before the motor called a "pre-motor filter" and a pleated exhaust filter that is usually a HEPA filter. Most modern vacuums with very few exceptions are "clean air" vacuums, meaning the suction fan runs in clean air. In older upright vacuums and a couple of modern ones like Kirby and Royal, the dirt is pulled right into the fan and is blown into the bag under pressure. A "clean air" upright vacuum works like a canister. The motor is attached to an enclosed fan that creates suction in a sealed bag chamber. The bag chamber will have two openings, one a suction inlet where the hose or nozzle attaches, and the other opening leads right to the suction fan and motor. Dirt laden air is drawn into a hose or nozzle if it's an upright and is sucked into a vacuum bag. The bag retains the dirt. The air passes through the bag, then through the pre-motor filter which is there to catch anything that got past the bag. After passing through the pre-motor filter the the air is pulled through the suction fan and blown out over the motor. Suction air is what cools the motor. Without it the motor will literally start to melt. What that means is that filter maintenance is critical to cooling and durability. Clogged filters do not pass air. Aside from reducing cleaning power you will overheat the motor and cause it to fail prematurely. Doesn't matter how expensive or cheap the vacuum, keeping the motor supplied with cooling air is super important to longevity. You can ruin the most expensive vacuums made by failing to replace filters when they get dirty.
