Basic Tips for Clean Carpets
Original Message   Jan 19, 2015 1:24 am
The best way to ensure your carpet stays looking good for longer is by vacuuming it regularly. Ideally this should be at least once a week, more often for high-traffic areas. Make sure you use a good quality vacuum cleaner that is suited to your carpet. Place mats at the entrance to your home or office from outside. This will minimise the amount of dust and soil brought into the home or office. And don’t forget to regularly clean your mats. Also, try to limit bringing food and drinks into carpeted areas. Always follow the manufacturer’s care and maintenance instructions for your carpet. With the appropriate care and maintenance, you can greatly extend the life and appearance of your new carpet. Also, save any guarantees, warranties and preventative maintenance tips that come with your new flooring. Always refer to these when attempting stain removal, to avoid unnecessary long-term damage. If your carpet gets marked or stained, make sure you try to remove the mark or stain immediately. The longer it remains the harder it will be to remove. If you are unable to clean up a stain completely, get a professional carpet cleaner in as quickly as possible to spot-clean the affected area. Pre-test any stain removal treatment on a small inconspicuous area of the floor to ensure against damage and possible colour/texture changes. Read the labels on all household products before using, since many contain chemicals which can damage carpet and other fabrics.

The Asian habit of removing one's shoes upon entry is not a bad habit to adopt.  You can buy a nice shoe storage cabinet to place at your front door, or the entrance to the garage from the home if that is where you enter and leave most often, to store your shoes in.  You can also place shoe covers for guests who wish to keep their shoes on and slippers for use indoors mostly during the winter in the same cabinet.  Asian furniture stores have these as every Asian home has one.  Not wearing shoes inside the home has greatly extended the life of my carpet.
