ORECK's Newest Handheld
Original Message   Jul 5, 2011 1:23 pm
This year, ORECK came out w/a newer version of their handheld vacuum cleaner.  It is in similar styling to the ORECK Edge handhelds.  Because of this newer styling, I believe that the vacuum cleaner will be easier to handle and carry.  The Ultimate is missing the rug & floor brush, but uses a wall/floor brush instead.

If you want an American-made handheld, then go for this ORECK.  But w/the American-made machine, you get the $149.99 price tag.

Who else has used this newer entry?

Hi Mke, The Oreck Ultimate Handheld has/had some flaws. I do not know if it has been changed but the Ultimate used square-mouthed bag though the fill-tube is round. This promoted dust blowback that was hard to explain to customers. This could be cured simply by the addition of a round foam piece being fitted onto the fill tube that was just large enough to cover the air-leaks. Another flaw is price. The new uprights (series built for Sears) performed very, very well but for above the floor cleaning you can do about the same with a 60-buck Hoover canister and save some money in the deal. Matter of fact, it proved best to warn possible buyers that despite the bowling ball schpiel these machines prove great only for cleaning all things ordinary. At one point at selected sites, they sold the Ultimate at a lesser price if "bundled" with an Oreck upright. Nonetheless, the Ultimate's design makes it very handy and also allows folks to buddy-up for Saturday cleaning. One can do floors with the upright while the other goes after stuff above with the handheld. Venson
