European market for small domestic appliances records positive figures
Original Message   Sep 3, 2010 10:34 am
Hi,

I've been looking for some vacuum cleaner news  for the last few weeks but nothing turned up except for an ongoing story of a woman up on charges for bashing her boyfriend in the head with hers.  Sorry, no brand was mentioned.

Fortunately, something good has shown up.

The following link leads to an interesting article about Europe's small appliance market.  Even more interesting, it is claimed that vacuum cleaners are in first place with almost half of the total sales growth attributable to this product group.  Again, no brands mentioned here either.

Hi Venson:

Interesting article.  Not sure how reliable this source is and has been in the past for such stats as appliance sales trends, figures, and profits.  If the numbers are solid and verifiable, they show promise.  Especially for stick and robotic vacuums.  Both products appear ready to make a sales surge in the Western European markets.

Carmine D.

PS:  The one major caveat I see in the numbers is the use of the euro as the base currency for comparison.  Euro is down steeply during the first 6 months of 2010, compared to the same time last year.  If the currencies of these Western european are up against the euro, as would be expected now, sales figures and margins in the countries' currencies would be up using recent 2010 lower euro exchanges.
