If my vacuum can remove even one spec of dirt that yours misses, then mine is better than yours - even if there's no proof that mine would have picked up as much dirt as yours...

Dustmite in Box,

I have been through Cookeville, TN, and I seriously doubt you'd find a nicer place to have an Oreck plant.  I seriously doubt that you'll find too many illegal immigrants in Cookeville.   From wikipedia:  "As of the census[1] of 2000, there were 23,923 people, 9,938 households, and 5,316 families residing in the city. The population density was 1,094.5 people per square mile (422.5/km²). There were 10,746 housing units at an average density of 491.6/sq mi (189.8/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 91.11% White, 2.91% African American, 0.16% Native American, 1.88% Asian, 0.21% Pacific Islander, 2.61% from other races, and 1.12% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 4.22% of the population."

The smart tyrant writes his own story to ensure that it is favorable.  The lazy will repeat lines from the book without fact checking.

Homer Simpson,

Younger Oreck has said...  English only = bad.  You can read more about it at hispanicnashville.com.

Hello SEVERUS:

Dib-ster never lets the truth get in the way of his fanciful stories/opinions.  Same is true with his opinions and preference in vacuums.  Quote the facts and history to him, the legitimate and documented shortcomings about dysons and reasons for their discontinuance, DC 26 too, for the ridiculously high prices and it's of no avail.  A shill is a shill is a shill..............or perhaps HS has him pegged.  Not a shill at all, just an obtuse wannabe.........[who watches the Simpsons for inspiration].

10 years ago there were very very few Mexicans in TN.  You should visit soon t see how those statistics have changed.

Did you really expect to find a population listing for illegals?  You also won't find the number of illegal prostitutes in Las Vegas listed.

LV tracks the illegal prostitutes and prostidudes.  Provides photos on the front page of the newspapers at least once a year.

It appears that the Latino/Hispanic percentage is 4.22 in Cookeville which I presume includes Mexicans.  As well as 3-4 percentage of Pacific islanders and other races [i.e. Puerto Rican, Cuban], who appear to look Mexican.  Unless you know a way to look at Mexicans and distinguish them from all other Latinos, Hispanics and other races?  If so, please share here.  I've been trying to learn.

The USA thru the US Census Bureau and Social Security Administrations in concert with local gov't authorities do a very good job tracking and reporting on the number of immigrants who are here in the US legally/illegally.  All these files are automated and can be matched in an assortment of ways and reasons by computers.  People are not illegal.  They are here illegally.  Many of whom work hard, pay social security taxes and receive zero benefits for their SS contributions/payments, because they are here illegally.  The US government estimates almost $2 Billion of pay-ins to SS fund and growing.  It is a sin that cries out to God.  Also, the US military forces have relatives/dependents of these persons who are here illegally serving in the Armed Forces.  Many of whom become US citizens by virtue of their military service and successfully meeting the citizen requirements.

LV only reports those caught.  Maybe you can tell us how many uncaught ones are operating in LV.  BTW, it is comforting to know that we have no murderers on death row.  They are just people who have committed an illegal act.

Maybe they aren't using a legal SS # as this excerpt indicates.

In 2002 alone, the last year with figures released by the Social Security Administration, nine million W-2's with incorrect Social Security numbers landed in the suspense file, accounting for $56 billion in earnings, or about 1.5 percent of total reported wages.

Social Security officials do not know what fraction of the suspense file corresponds to the earnings of illegal immigrants. But they suspect that the portion is significant.

If DIB would like to provide evidence (i.e. links to newspaper articles) about immigration busts at Oreck to back up his claims, I'm ready to listen.  Unsubstantiated accusations of wrong doing by Oreck are unacceptable.  It's sad that Dustmite tries to deflect legitimate criticism of Dyson products by making  random accusations of wrongdoing by competitors.   Oreck picked Cookeville because of it's educated workforce and demographics and most importantly whatever incentives were given it to locate there.

The publishing of postitute/dude pictures with names and ages in the newspapers serves as a deterrent to illegal prostitution.  Works well, according to reports.

2002?  That's old and out of date.  Legitimate employers in the USA [assuming ORECK in Cookeville TN is legit] are required, under severe penalties of law, to withhold employees' FICA taxes [SS payroll taxes] EVERY PAY PERIOD and contribute employers' share into the SS fund EVERY PAY PERIOD.  Incorrect SSN's are flagged by Social Security Administration [SSA] and employers/employees have a time period set by law for corrections of the SSN errors.  Failure to make corrections timely, like not paying FICA taxes/contributions to SSA, subjects  employers to unannounced audits by internal and external auditors of the Social Security Administration in Baltimore MD.  Employers will tell you that they avoid these audits at all costs by complying with the laws.

The news is rife with reports of Federal authorities shuttering businesses, even well known ones, for employing persons who are here illegally.  It serves as a strong deterrent to solve SSN errors timely and ensure employees are here legally and properly enrolled in the SSA.  Back in 2002, the nanny issue, not paying wages in an above board arms length transaction [read SSA] was the undoing of many political appointees and candidates for political office.  These days the crime is almost non-existent thanks to the high level attention and pervasive news accounts.

I have serious doubts that Oreck employes any illegals.  No need to.  Oreck cashed in on an opportunity when TRW closed leaviung a facility and lots of unemployeed personnel.

Some info on Cookeville jobs:

Household Income
Less than $10,00019%
$10,000 to $14,99910%
$15,000 to $24,99919%
$25,000 to $34,99913%
$35,000 to $49,99915%
$50,000 to $74,99912%

Education
Less than 9th grade12%
9th to 12th grade, no diploma14%
High school graduate25%
Some college, no degree18%
Associate's degree3%
Bachelor's degree16%
Graduate degree12%

Cookeville is an excellent distribution point for shipping.  Better than MS.  I do not see education as being a viable reason to locate there.  Not many degreed persons willing to work in a factory assembling vacuums.
