James Dyson carries the tired vacuum industry and just in time for Christmas...
Original Message   Nov 19, 2009 10:07 pm
The vacuum manufacturers are jumping on the Dyson free-ride big time this year.  I just visited my local Target and it looks like their Bissell's and Hoover's are almost fully converted to single and multi-cyclonic's.  And lookie, lookie... the mighty Electrolux (heavy as a tank upright) has almost caught up with the Fantom vacuum (Dyson dual cyclone technologies), I doubt it filters better than the Fantom's.

I'd have thought Bissel, Hoover and co would have taken the opportunity to patent their slight variations of the design themselves if they thought there was a loophole? Can they do that?

I keep an eye on patents filed by Dyson so I know what they're up to but I was about to write something about them on the unofficial Dyson forum so I'll have a look at those posts before I do - thanks.

Have you used the lighter Dyson Ball vacuums?  They will be the next big thing to be knocked-off (attempted).

I think it is Samsung that has more low efficiency (clear bin) w/ conical multi-cyclonic patents than anyone including Dyson.  IMO - Sir James’ team has the most efficient, most consumer friendly, most cost effective in the industry - best separation, low mfg costs, easiest to inspect, easiest to clean, least likely to clog, lightest as possible, lowest handle height as possible (carrying handle on separator unit)…that is the DC14 type (first used on the DC14).  I would of thought Dyson LTD could of obtained some obvious patents to prevent the Hoover/Dirt Devil Synergy-type and the Bissell Healthy Home v.2 and perhaps the Airvolution too (anything but a revolution).

It takes 1 ˝ years on average to have a patent app published.  The Bissell Healthy Home v.1 pat app has been published.

Hello DiB:

I happen to see your comment in parens and thought I'd do some research on this Electrolux Versatility and here it is below.  Tho you say it is as heavy as tank, at  22 pounds 6 ounces it's on par with the latest of your fave brand which weighs in at 21 pounds and most other TOL brand full size uprights.  In fact the user reviews are extremely positive for the Electrolux Versatility.
