Re: Gear case seal leaking

I think you're right MKD55.

I've been doing some looking around and see that the 00 grease probably is the better

grease to use. Low/high temp working points as well as a superior lubrication. One

manufacturer even suggests it be used if your seals are leaking. Now where to find it???

I'm gonna call some agriculture businesses tomorrow, see if they can help.

Worse case, I'll go to the farmer across the street from me and see if he has some...

He just brought his corn in 3 weeks ago.

Thanks for the tip.

Gear case seal leaking
#2   Nov 29, 2008 7:27 pm
Hey guys,

I have a thirty year old Ariens snowblower (model 922024) that runs great. When I changed the fluid in the gear case

everything seemed fine. However, a couple days later I started it up and noticed that after running the auger

the rear seal, where the shaft comes out and goes to the large pulley, was leaking.

The oil I used was gear lube MP80/90EP.  Could this cause the problem? Or could a

30 year old seal be the problem.

Any suggestions???

Re: Wheel question for Arien's 922018.

Thanks for any help anyone was going to offer.

I found an old thread and here's what I came up with. These wheels should fit pretty good, and according to a shop in MN, they think anything bigger

will tear the drivetrain up.

Pretty cheap, easy fix.

Wheel question for Arien's 922018.

Hey guys,

I've been watching your forum over the past month and have been very educated on what I've read. I'm thinking it's time to dive in because I've hit a road block that I need help with. I have an older (I know some of you guys have even older) Ariens Sno-thro 922018 (blower has 922024). I bought it used because it runs so well, have changed the oils and lubed everything-even thinking about rebuilding it...I feel its a piece of history-you don't see many 30 year pieces of equipment running around my neck of the woods. At any rate, the wheels are the hard molded rubber tires that are race slicks now. I'm looking to replace them with a tube version-possibly the X-trac or Sno Hogs. Where can I get the wheel (rim) for them? Someone on this site (from 2006) posted some great pictures of the exact mod I want but didn't give parts number or suppliers. Also, once my wheels are off the axel will slide right out so I'm thinking the current hubs retain the axel shaft. It has a 3/4 inch shaft w/ a 1/4 in key. The shaft sticks 3.5 inches out from the machine. My wheel diameter (rim) is 7 inches. I'd like to rum a 6 in rim with a 13x5-6 tire.

Any suggestions?
