Ariens ST824 (924082) Housing Repaint
Original Message   Jan 8, 2012 10:59 pm
Here are some pictures of the project.  Focused on the blower housing as there was some significant surface rust inside.  Tractor paint is very good for a 19-ish year-old machine.  Added an amber light as it came with an 18-watt alternator.  Painted the flywheel housing and muffler, as they were rusty too.  I hope I don't regret not treating the rust with a neutralizer before painting.  I sanded, primed, painted two coats, and a clear coat.  I didn't completely repaint the exterior, only spot areas.  It came out very well, I think.

In an effort to dare Mother Nature to make it snow, I'm going to start work on the tractor, replacing some worn parts...see a different thread.

The bucket looks great.  I really enjoy seeing 20+ years old snowblowers restored to near showroom conditions, even better when they are repowered with modern OHV engines making more power.

I hope you had adequate ventilation when painting in the basement.  :)

Grazie mille!  What's the verdict, having not neutralized the rust prior?
