Ariens Idler Pulley Options
Original Message   Nov 18, 2011 10:12 am
So the bearings on both idler pulleys are shot on my ST824.  Unfortunately, the pulley is tack welded together; to replace the bearing you must replace the pulley as well.  At $20 each, I'm looking for alternatives.  Anyone consider replacing this,

with this?

My concern is the shaft diameter appears to be about 3/8" on the MTD part and 1/2" on the Ariens.  So, that's a show-stopper.  But there must be an alternative.  Perhaps I could drill out the weld and rivet it back together with new bearing installed.

As far as I can tell, this would be the replacement bearing...not 100%.

Although, I do see Sten has replacements that are less expensive.
