Yamaha YS624 problems throwing snow
Original Message   Dec 30, 2007 12:10 pm
I've had a 624 for about 16 years now and I love it.  This winter though it hasn't been throwing snow like it used to.  Anything more than an 8 inch cut and it bogs down and will only throw the snow about three feet.  I'm hoping I just need to replace the auger belt as it squeaks while under pressure.  Any advice?

Cheers,
Jon_

Sounds like you've answered your own question.  Inspect and replace the belt if need be.  Over time, belts will wear and their dimensions will not fit the pulley as well as a new belt.  When that happens, the belts begin to glaze and slip.  More slipping leads to more heating, more glazing, more slipping........ Normally, it's the auger belt that goes first and usually by quite a margin.  The wheel drive belt seems to last for ever.  I've never had to replace one in over twenty years of snow thrower ownership.

well if the belt is loose them u should replace it, but u where saying it bogs down when you hit deep snow so it probally isnt the belt thats causing your problem, that shouldnt cause the engine to bog down if the belt is slipping the engine should maintain its speed, u could try to adjust your carb a little richer and see what happens.    good luck!
