Murray 11 hp rider worth keeping?
Original Message   Apr 4, 2005 4:53 pm
hello all- my neighbor gave me a Murray rider for free. think the carb is gummed up..but runs good on starter fluid. will be cleaning carb when time permits. my question is this: is this mower even worth keeping around? I know there are a lot of variables that would need to be answered, but I can see it is not a 'quality' built mower..but the price is right.  I just think it is going to be a continuious matinence mower. ( hood is already getting some stress cracks on corners).  what would you do?? junk-or-keep         thanks    Gene   p.s. about 10-12 years old I think..and the paint is decent Except the mower deck is flaking all over.

If you have the space, keep it. It is always nice to have a back-up machine if the regular rider is down for whatever reason. It's probably a manual tranny? If nothing else, it can be used to teach your kids the intricasies of using a clutch. And a third reason to keep it, would be to be able to do some nasty hauling job where you don't want your regular machine getting exposed to water/mud/snow/whatever.

Never hurts to have a second one. Might be a fun restore project to take on.

Hi...

If you can get it running for a few bucks... I'd keep it... or sell it...

...even if you don't mow with it... can be used for other things as mentioned...

Dave...

P.S.   My 1st post in several weeks...  hope to be here more often...

thanks for all the replys. thinking I might keep it. not alot of space to store it indoors, but might put up another shed this summer. garage is full. until then I'll just 'tarp' it. thanks again..I'm convinced to at least keep it for awhile. might save my back if need to pull something from the back to the front of the house.      Gene

Mnay guys I know keep and scrounge anything they can get their hands on to be used as "trading" material later. Kinda like baseball cards when you were a kid? Fix up 3 or 4 junkers to swap or sell for a better mower in the future.
