John Deer Backup Switch
#1   Aug 3, 2008 11:34 pm
I recently purchased a John Deer LA105 lawn tractor.  It has the usual lockout switch so you can't back up without pushing the switch to keep the blades running.  I have no children at home or pets so the switch for me is rather a nuisance.  Does anyone know how to disable the switch?

Thanks

Thanks everyone for your comments.  I purchased the Stihl 45C and it is a joy to use.  Starts real easy and boy does it chew up the weeds.  The bonus was a $20 rebate.
Stihl Grass Trimmer

I was shopping for a new gas trimmer and I have narrowed the search to a Stihl Model FS 45C with what they call "Easy 2 Start".  It seems to be a good unit and the dealer has been in business for years (not a big box store).  Unit is $169 which seems reasonable when compared to other gas trimmers.

I already have a Stihl leaf blower that works just fine.

Does anyone in the forum have experience with this or a similar model?

Re: Only half the auger is turning!

Half the auger turning sounds like you broke a sheer bolt on the side that doesn't turn.  The bolt goes through the auger and the auger shaft.  If its broken it should just push out.  To fix ,grease the shaft, there should be a grease fitting, and replace with a replacement shear bolt.  Don't use a a machine bolt.  If something jams the auger the bolt won't snap but the drive gears will.  as to the second part of your question I have no idea.  Sorry.

Thanks Mountainman.  I bought mine from a dealer not a big box store so I assume this was done.  I think that other than the oil change I'll leave everything alone for now.
