Stop credit card junk mail

You get your mail and there is another credit card offer from Capital One or another card issuer. Stop already. And here’s how to keep this trash from your mailbox. 

Just call 1-888-5-opt-out (1-888-567-8688) or log on to www.optoutprescreen.com. You’ll be asked your name, address and social security number. Even though you may balk at this last request, the credit bureaus say it helps them cut down on identity theft.

You’ll still get offers from your bank, and stores where you shop, but in a few months the flood will decline to a trickle, your mailman will gain weight due to a lightened load and a tree or two may sleep a little easier tonight.
