hemi dodge...not good
Original Message   Feb 23, 2005 6:47 pm
i know this is a bit out there so file it if necesary.

im driving a company vehicle now 4x4 with the hemi.real nice looking truck .rides nice and has all the percs.

boss said pick a truck that we both like and we can lease it.

how could i go wrong. he wasnt real thrilled with the hemi but i kinda whined and cried a bit and we got one.

have been driving it since may and im still waiting for it to work good.

it gets horrible mileage.

the windo sticker said 26 mpg on highway.now remember our gallon isnt the same as yours ,its about a half quart bigger.

so anyway it gets about 12 mpg on a good day.

only way it would get 26 is if you dropped it out of an airplane.

the other problem is power...it dosent have any ...really sucks.in my opinion.

my previous truck was a 99 dodge with the 5.2 magnum and that truck would waste this one.bad.

and it got much better mileage.

i talked to one mechanic and he said they used the computer to take all the low speed power away from them ,because they were replacing to many transmissions and rear ends.

sounds right to me cause if you step on it from a stop it will not even spin a tire.but if you are going about 40 and step on it it will really go.

anybody else have one of these trucks .

any ideas.

I'd just like to put my 2 cents in on this damn Hemi Dodge piece of _______.  I have never liked a Dodge a day in my life and now get in one to go to work daily.

I gave it a chance at first.  Hey it would spin.  I'm the only one that would put it through it's paces, did that quite well.  Then the dealer got a hold of it.  Now if you manage to get 1 over the hill pony to come to the gate you're very lucky!!!  But when all the horses come running to the gate hold on.  (Not like it happens too often).

The fuel milage - well like Chris says - it has none.

What else can I say?

Please if anyone out there can help please do.

My brother just bought one and he loves it.He got a 2500 because he pulls a trailer. He thinks it has plenty of power and $#%*.Maybe you need to open up the air and exhaust?

What rear gear is in it? Likely it doesn't have a low enough gear. I test drove one that would spin off the line and and damn near have trouble not spinning from a stop light if you gave it enough gas. I think the mechanic was giving you bull. With a 3:73 rear gear and 390 ft lbs of torque, that thing will toast some rubber. I am willing to bet you have 3:21 rear end or maybe the next one up?

That's how this truck was until the dealership got their hands onto it.  Now it only spins when you find ice of gravel.

*ucked up is an understatement!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The gears are 3.55's the same that was in his other truck, just not a real truck.  Just a big car with a box.

Good Dodge forum

There seems to be some kind of PCM flash that can be done.

Interesting Rob! Looks like there is a easy mod to try too.

I did the throttle calibration trick and boy what a differance! I am the happiest with this mod and it cost nothing. Heres how to calib it.
1. turn key to on but don't start the engine.
2. wait till the chimes to stop and floor the gas peddle at a rapid pace.
3. while holding the peddle down turn the key to off.
This mod has worked on both of my Hemis and a friends 04 also.
