Thanks all you folks for the kind words.. ,  and it is so true we have the best Moderators in the world.  We also show kindness on this forum---all are so willing to helpl when we run into trouble.  My new computer is just a Walmart bought  Hp--with XP Home Edition.  ,   Model #MXK 43904KS is on the sales slip., not near as expensive as my old computer but it works so good.  Much faster, etc. Until we talk again may you have a good day reap God,s blessings---Will

Will

I bought just a cheapo E-Machine when I needed a new work computer a few years ago and then another one for the kids for Christmas and I have been very impressed with both of them.  No problems whatsoever.  I had a Dell which I had nothing but problems with and their customer service was terrible....I'd never buy another one.  So, in my experience, brand name doesn't mean a whole lot, except a higher price tag.

I don't know what version of Windows you had on your previous one but I really like the windows XP (Mac fans, I haven't tried a Mac so I can't compare it) compared to the Windows ME I had on my Dell.

Hope you and the Mrs. are doing well.

Paula

Besides OPE, I also work on computers and know exactly what your talking about. For the general use, E-Machines are about the best you can buy. A word of advice to everyone, STAY AWAY FROM DELL!!!

I must be the only one that got a good Dell!

However do they stay in business?

I have a hard time believing it Marshall! I knew this lady who brought in a Dell laptop that she just bought. She said she turned it on and within 30 seconds or so, its started smoking. I opened it up and found that there were alot of crossconnections inside!

Dell's are just ok, once you fix them.  I thought Customer Care was better than HP.  I just Compaq's and Dell's are in the same order.  Emachines are better than they used to be though.

The computer I'm on is a Frankenstien some guy built inexpensively a few years ago for my girlfriend...

It works... (keeping fingers crossed!)

Is it a fast machine or slow? Meaning, is it good for work and internet, or can it do games too?
