Yahoo web beacons
Original Message   Jan 14, 2005 5:56 pm
I know this is off topic, I posted it in community forum as well.  Mods delete if you like, I posted here because I know how the members value their web privacy and that some of our members don't  visit the off topic page.

Subject: (Fwd) yahoo web beacons

------- Forwarded message follows -------

Yahoo is now using something called "Web Beacons" to
track Yahoo
Group users around the net and see what you're doing
and where you
are going, similar to cookies.

Yahoo is recording every website and every group you
visit. Take a look at their updated privacy statement:
Here's how to opt out!!!

About half-way down the privacy statement page, in the
section on
cookies, you will see a link that says web beacons.

Click on the phrase web beacons. That will bring you
to a paragraph entitled "Outside the Yahoo Network."
In this section you'll see a little "click here to opt
out" link that will let you opt-out of their new
method of snooping.

Once you have clicked that link, you are exempted.

Notice the "Success" message on the top of the next
page.

DO NOT hit the "Cancel Opt-out" button ... if clicked,
it will *undo* the opt-out.  Feel free to forward this
to other groups or folks you know have Yahoo accounts.

Emmo,

Sounds like a fancy way to say "tracking cookie" doesn't it? I did it some time ago, and took your reminder above as a hint to do it again. There is no indication I'm aware of in your Yahoo account that opt-out is still active. Thanks Emmo.

Sure does Wind.....

Just about any  "free service" has some sort of catch.  No free lunch, except at Abbys of course.
