Poll: So what are YOUR summer home projects??
Original Message   Jul 18, 2005 9:03 am
So, everyone here knows that summer is time to fix stuff, build stuff, remodel stuff, etc, etc.

What is YOUR summer project??  What is on YOUR "honeydew" list.......

I'm currently taking all tools, ladders, etc, off the walls of my garage, priming and painting the drywall, and reorganizing everything that gets hung up.

My garage is about 28 x 40 feet, so it is a bit of a job. I know I should have done this when we first built, I hate seeing drywall unprimed just slowly turning brown, but i just did not do it when I should have.

Now it will be nicely painted, curtians on the windows, and everything hung up just right.   It's a great place to have grad parties, etc, when the weather is questionable.

This should be done this week, then moving on to the next project............

So, what is YOUR project(s)?????

Well I ripped the old linoleum floor up out of the front foyer of the house and had a new tile floor put in.  I and a buddy help me last Sunday extend the upstairs floor of the new garage all the way accross so that we have much more room up there.  Man was that a lot of work.  I planted some shrubs for the wife and I recaptured a old flower bed by hand, man was that a pain a rototiller would have been a huge help there, lot of rocks though.  She is pretty happy with me right now lol....My final project is going to be to put a flag pole in the front of our house.  The flag pole is actually a radio antenna so that I can establish a base station set up in my house so that I can further expand my radio hobby.  This will be my one project for me....

I am sure she has more plans for me but so far I am looking good lol.....

Summer projects?  Chris and I (mostly Chris) have lots to do.  Let's start with some hardscaping (rock walls), creating flower gardens and seeing what grows where the best.  Put in a veggie garden this year and have seen deer the last few mornings - but the garden is still standing.  There's lots of things to do through the wooded area - little paths to make for the tractor (Chris is starting to get tired of getting stuck in the mud, he wants to improve what paths he has now) and thinning the softwood out so the hardwood can grow and the ground can get some greenery covering it.  Where he's previously thinned there are many ferns growing  Those are some of the outside projects that we have going on.  Inside I'm hand sewing curtains for the spare room, after I get some more money saved up I'm going to make new curtains for the living room.  I'd also like to make the matching cushion covers with the left over material to go on the bed.  I have the master bedroom curtains already made, so now I have the cushion covers to make for that room.  They're not really summer projects, but I choose to do them in the summer.  Then there will be fire wood on the horizon to cut, split, and put inside.  So we're having a busy summer and lovin' every minute of it.

Mrs. Buttlint insists that I get my butt out into my shop and make her a motorcycle out of this mess.
It is a 1954 BSA Bantam that I bought in 1971. (Holy crap! 34 years ago!)
Back when I was an impulsive young man, that partied far more than I do today, I bought out the remains of a motorcycle dealership that went belly up.
One of the conditions that I had too meet as I dumped the contents of an 18' U-haul into her front room (Back porch, attic, laundry room, etc.) was that Mrs. Lint get her pick of the litter.
She went for the runt of course. The one that needed the most work. The one that need the most parts. The "cute" one.
A promise is a promise. So for  over 3 decades I been scrounging parts at swap meets, the internet, old peoples garages, anywhere that may have something that I need.
I finally got enough stuff together too get a start on this thing, this summer. (Check those garages for me guys.)
I am working on all of the mechanical stuff now. I hope too get the plating done this winter. Paint should be next spring or summer.
But after 34 years....cut me some slack on time schedules.

Which summer Frank? This summer I am hard at work thinking about the stuff that is half done from last summer.

Lint,
While i was busy thinking last night i saw a show about some old motorcycles. British I maybe. The first commercial bike to use the engine as the frame. Between 50 and 100 grand, restored.

Summer projects...

Not much this year... try to keep up with mowing and improving my ~3 acre lot in VT... planted a few apple trees and a dozen raspberry bushes there... and finishing touches and grass seeding a re-furbished 40' x 100' ole' fence line with 3 tons or rocks removed and stockpiled...

Attend the veggie garden at home...

I save indoor projects for cold wether...

I usually start about 50+ projects and jump around amongst them(could be ranging from tree removals, to car restoration work, to sattelite dish signal stealing devices and larger dishes and motors).  Get about 90% done and skip on to something else.  I drive my wife nuts.

I give my wife and family 110% though. ahhhhhhhhhhhh

LOL - From what I hear those articles are going to be going for some pretty good bucks.  Good luck with that Marshall.
Now here's something - sit down and think (real hard thing for some of you to do by times) real hard about something that you always have to ask someone else to do.  For me it's using a sewing machine - hate the things with a passion and can't sew a straight line with one, but hand sew - straightest, neatest lines ever.  Make it a summer project to learn part or all of how to accomplish what you need help with.  Just a thought.

Not anything really major that I have to do to the house this summer, but, I do have to wash all of the house windows cause they are so dirty you can't even hardly see out of them lol. Then I have to clean out the gutters and clean the decks. That is why I am waiting for my pressure washer coming Augest cause thats what I am going to use to do all this stuff. The projects that I have already done were, install AC unit, restore lockers and paint them, paint the work bench, and install telephone and ethernet to the shop.
