If you want to lurk, you can certainly do that without signing in. However, if you are signed in why wouldn't you want anyone to know?

I guess it's possible he forgot that you don't have to sign in when you visit the site, but maybe he wants to reply without being seen.

He has not logged in since 5 PMish yesterday.
