What gas (propane) grill to get
Original Message   May 25, 2005 3:00 pm
I'm told I can get a gas grill for Fathers' Day. Will be my first. I really only need a two burner and would like to try to find a good one for under $450. I am leaning toward a Weber Genesis Silver A ($399), but am wondering if there may be a brand of equal quality that might be a bit less expensive.

Jonathan,

I own a Weber and can tell you that their customer service is number one. Replacement parts are also readily available from Weber or other sources.

Consumer Reports seems to rate Vermont Castings higher than Weber now. I think they are available through Loews. I can't comment on thier consumer support though.

Hi...

I'm in the market for a new grill too... want quality...

...one with an infared burner for the rotisserie...

So far... have seen a "Home Depot Only" Ducane...

...and learned about a Sterling Forge "Estate" model...

...any suggestions ?

Dave...

Hi Jonathan:

I would go with the Weber.  I have the Genesis Silver B and just love it.  I think that the B has a higher BTU output than the A.  I was fortunate to get my Silver B on closeout several years ago for $350.  That was $100 cheaper than any other price in town.  One of the few times I get a bargain.  If you go with the Weber, I would recommend getting some of the accessories such as the rotiserrie (sp) and rib rack.

Good luck on your purchase.

Weber.

Silver A here.

Dav the hoity toity place near us has Ducane. They look good, the place is pretty snobby, but they usually carry only quality stuff. Never seen Sterling Forge. There are some nice grills out there now. A lot more upscale (expensive) brands than just a few years ago.

Don't know anything about them, except it is what the rich and famous in Baltimore are buying.

If you want to get serious about great taste, go charcoal ovens from Hasty Bake. I have a Weber Gas Grill but much prefer charcoal to cook over. These are not you average charcoal grill.

Actually, I wish I had my Weber One Touch back.

Weber Silver A here for us, a family of five. One thing I do notice though is that there are hotter spots on the grill. The right side seems to cook faster than the left. So what I do is just rotate the food around on the grill.

Hmmm...... maybe I just have to clean it?

Now where did I put that power washer?
