advice on vacuums for hardwood and carpet

Hi,

Wonderful web site.  I need help trying to find a vacuum which suits my needs.  My house is mostly hardwood, but the bedrooms have carpet.  I need a canister vac. which can handle both.  I would like it to be quiet, lightweight ( I often have to hold my 2 yr old while vacuuming-I don't want a cumbersome vacuum dragging behind me and it is hard to carry both up the stairs), and powerful enough to clean a carpet really well(I'm tired of having two vacuums-an upright for the carpet and a canister for the hardwood).  My husband has terrible allergies- the reason for our hardwood floors, so I would like to buy a vacuum which can cut down on our airborn allergins.  I have tried the best Sears canister and found it cumbersome, loud, and it didn't clean the carpet very well.  Any advice is appreciated as this purchase will probably cost a lot and I'll have to use it for many years, and quite often at that.

Thanks,
Laura

I would suggest a euro pro portable wonder vacuum, it has allergy filters,it has a hard and carpeted floor attachment, and it is very powerful, and is very small and light it is quiet and outcleans powerful full size uprights, it can lift 2 kitchen tables and a 16 pound bowling ball, plus it only costs about 80$, they are sold on QVC and HSN and you can find one in a speigel catolouge, or online at the euro pro website
