Do you prefer an upright or canister vacuum https://rankingmom.com/best-canister-vacuum/? For an upright it is very hard to beat a German made Sebo uprights. Every one they make is great. They are exceptionally durable and have things like threaded steel inserts in the plastic bodies for machine screws instead of just using self threading screws screwed directly into the plastic like everyone else. It is a very high quality touch. Their durability in hard commercial service is legendary. Wear parts like brush rolls can be swapped without disassembly and the belts never need changing. Aerus Lux probably makes the next best upright. Aerus Lux is the new name of the famous old vacuum maker Electrolux USA. Great quality, last forever given reasonable care. Third best would be the Italian company Lindhaus. They are close to Sebo for quality. If you want a canister vacuum the Kenmore 21814 Elite or the 81714 Elite are a great value. Both use the same canister in different colors with a different power nozzle. They have huge power and their power nozzles are based on an ages old but still very good Whirlpool design introduced in 1980. Unlike cheaper vacuums Sears stocks all the repair parts at reasonable prices. Other cheaper brands are throw away junk. Kennys you maintain and keep. The 21814 version has an 8 foot long hose. You don't know how useful that is until you have it. Most canister vacuums only give you a 5 1/2 or 6 foot long hose. The 81714 has a 7 footer. The Kenmore BC4027 available on line is also a nice vacuum with the same wonderful power nozzle sold with the Elite 81714. Hint, the longer hose from the 21814 Elite plugs right on. All three have the wonderful electric motor driven Pet Powermate hand brush. No turbo tool will ever compare to the Pet Powermate. IF the Kennys have any drawback it is that they're made in China now. Booo-hisss. If you don't mind paying for the best quality buy a Tristar CS. The canister is all metal and so is the upper cover of the power nozzle. They offer an optional 12 foot long hose, and electric motor driven hand brush much like the Pet Powermate and the overall quality is superb. It is a vacuum you pass along to your heirs. Made by the same company are Aerus Lux canisters. The Lux Classic has been around since about 1990, maybe earlier and has been sold over the years as the Electrolux 2100 and the Electrolux Ambassador. The Lux Legacy first showed up in the late 1990s as the SR6500 and later the Electrolux Epic 6500 or Guardian 7000. Both come with an optional Sidekick electric motor driven hand brush that is much like the Pet Powermate. Both of these and the Tristar are made in the US at the same plant in Virginia. The suction motors are from a Hong Kong company, the electric hand brushes are also made in China but everything else is made in Virginia. With all of these do not be cheap and use paper dust bags. The Kenmore Elites especially are so powerful they will tear paper bags and when they do it is a huge mess. Always uses a good quality fleece HEPA dust bag. Kenmore sells the Style Q bag. No dust gets past it. My Elite is close to 8 years old and still squeaky clean inside. Sebo sells excellent HEPA bags. For Tristar you have to buy the VACUSA fleece HEPA bag (though the OEM Tristar paper bag isn't bad, beware Envirocare bags tears and leak) and for the two Aerus canisters you can get a great HEPA bag from evacuumstore.com or from Clean Obsessed.

Thanks for the info.
