Oreck Edge or Miele S7

Alright, simply put, which $800 upright would you prefer: the S7 Tango, or the Oreck Edge w/canister?

Huh?  There's no comparison other than what you may make of apples and oranges.  I have an S7 it's far heavier than the Oreck, has onboard tools and the power to back them up.  However, it is made for persons that want to use a single machine and don't mind a little weight.  The Edge is a lighter machine and though it does have an onboard hose, it comes with a separate portable canister and tools for regular duty.

Putting on my thinking cap, Oreck "teams", upright and portable canister, are great if you're sharing cleaning detail.  One person can do floors and other tasks while the other can handle upholstery and other above the floor tasks to get the job done faster.  That said, I'm used to cleaning on my own and am perfectly happy with just one vacuum as long as it has what I need at hand.

The price, either way, I find a little scary and think lots of other shoppers will too.  The Edge is brand new and it may take time to see  price drop.  Presently, it may not be too dificult to negotiate good deals on S7 models.  While looking for price advantages also remain aware that there are two versions of this Miele -- models wth a dial type speed and suction adjustment and those with the electronic speed and suction adjustment.  Small matter but that should be a point not to overlook if bargaining.

If you can live with the godawful blue color and the Super Clean air filter as opposed to the HEPA, and can live without the headlight, you can get a Miele S7 with trade for  499.00

Or just buy a HEPA filter cartridge which fits all S7 Miele uprights.

They just lowered the Tango to 549.00, with trade here at 499.00, this machine will out clean Oreck handily but far heavier, great long tool hose though

And now the non hepa no light Blue model at 449.00 is quite a bargain for a true high end machine, and the Tango will be a tough sell now with the price reduction of the others except for the bells and whistles lover

It can be a good vacuum but even as the owner of many Sebo uprights, doesn't the Oreck Edge have a bigger dust capacity? You don't have to use the separate floor brush on the Felix either as it has a brush roll stop button. It can't be put into a canister vac - only a large hand held as the body doesn't really sit level on its own.

I'm waiting to check out the S7, as the local dealer down here has delayed shipments over issues concerning defects in the rear wheels...is anyone aware of this supposed defect?
