Thanks longboat, I'll check out the cable assembly this weekend and hopefully figure things out. If that's not the issue then I don't feel too comfortable messing around with the gear assembly...I'll have to see if I can get some help. Cheers, Speedbird
Ariens wheel not turning...

Hey guys/gals,

It's been a while since I last posted here, but after a good run without any issues I've once again hit a snag and need your collective wisdom and experience to help me figure out my next move.
I have a 5 year-old Ariens 927LE snowblower and during the course of my annual summer maintenance noticed that the trigger wheel-lock no longer seems to work. All of the power is going to the right wheel only and I can't figure out why.
I tried removing and cleaning the assembly, and made sure that the rectangular metallic bit is still on the axle, but from the feel of things it seems as though when I squeeze the left handle trigger I don't feel any 'click' indicating that the lock is either engaging or disengaging. It's not feeling "mushy" and I'm not sure how to check the assembly to make sure the cable is intact/properly connected.

Your thoughts?

Take the belt cover off and checking the belts to make sure they are in good shape. Engage the auger and make sure the auger belt tightens down properly. Try turning the impeller by hand. Try engaging the auger and pulling the rope at the same time. See if it feels very heavy.

Ok, when you say "engage the auger", you mean try to turn it by hand?
And what do you mean by "try engaging the auger and pulling the rope at the same time"? Which 'rope" am I pulling and if it feels 'heavy", is that a good or bad thing?

But this is a start. Thanks...

Anyone else?

Hello all,

I have a 5 year old Ariens 927LE with a tecumseh 9hp engine (LH318sa). Yesterday I pulled it out of the garage for the first time this winter. It started up no problem but while the wheels engaged without a hitch the auger and impeller wouldn't turn at first (keep in mind there was nothing blocking them and the blower had been kept in a heated garage). Not being sure what the issue was I tilted the machine back about 6" and then let it drop to the ground (I know, I know...) Slowly the auger and impeller began to turn, eventually building up enough speed that I was able to get 3/4 of the driveway done, though the snow wasn't being shot out as far or as powerfully as it normally is. When I stopped for a quick bathroom break and came back outside that was it - the beast started up but refused to feed...

So my question to you is a two part one:

1. Based on this limited information what do you THINK the issue might be and how could I verify this?

2. I do not have any mechanical knowledge but can use tools if I know exactly what to do. Is this something i could/should tackle on my own? More than the cost of any repairs what I'd really like to avoid is loading up and transporting the thing back and forth to the service center...

I appreciate any info/advice you might have for me...

Hey Snowman,

I've had a few things come up since I first posted this but I finally got around to taking a look at the beast, and sure enough, I'm missing the rectangular key for my right wheel...It must have come off when I was oiling the axles.
Question is, what do I do now? Do I have to contact Ariens directly to obtain a new one or is there some other option out there for me? I'm tired of having to push around 300lbs of steel up and down my driveway and I'm sure it can't be good for the engine that all the power is going to one wheel that's forced to do all the work...
Thanks again for your help and suggestions guys.
