First Run with Simplicity 9528 with Cab

We received 5" of wind blown fine snow last night. First major snowfall of the year and first opportunity to try out the new Simplicity 9528 snow thrower. The model number represents 9.5 horse power and 28 inch clearing width. It comes with B&S over head valve engine, trigger release wheel lock, rod and gear chute control, cast iron auger gear case, single handed operation feature, all steel construction and very well built. Out of the box, the machine operated well other than the wheel drive actuation cable needing adjustment. Initially the wheel drive was hesitant when up against the end of driveway snow. After adjustment, it chewed right through it and threw it some distance. I used to have a 10 h.p. 29" Craftsman that the Simplicity replaced. It could throw snow but this machine does it quite a bit better. It's much quieter, doesn't vibrate as much and seems to burn less fuel. The only down side of this machine (and most other new machines) is the super slow reverse speeds. Thankfully, with the wheel lock release, turning the machine rather than reversing will help reduce the need for reverse.

Now that I have a full winter of using this machine, all I have to say is "Wow!" This is a super machine. Throws snow further than you'd think possible for an engine of that size and it never missed a beat all winter. Glad I didn't spend the extra money on an Ariens or Toro!!

Date Purchased: Oct. 2007
Price Paid: $1500
Recommend: Yes
Pros:
Very well built, lots of useful features, over head valve engine, chute control rod rather than cable, trigger actuated wheel lock release, single hand operation, light

Cons:
Reverse speeds are painfully slow but that's the case with almost all new machines.
