The box store JD tractors are an embarrassment to the John Deere name. They are cheap AYP yard tractors with JD paint scheme and stickers.

Anyone looking for a John Deere is best to avoid these flaky, sub-par machines.

They should painted all lemon yellow and re-named John Dough!

Pros:
None.

Cons:
Machines are cheap junk dragging down the proud name of John Deere.

Avoid at all costs.

I bought a self propelled J-series John Deere mower at Lowes in April of 2006. In July of 2007 the right side of the engine on my 15 month old mower shattered and sent peices flying. The 2 year warranty was not worth the paper it was printed on. In order to have any warranty work done, you have to take it to a John Deere dealer. The first question they asked was; where did you buy it? As soon as I said Lowes, he proceeded to tell me that it looked like an oil problem and that it wasn't covered. When I mentioned that the dipstick indicated that there was plenty of oil in it, he told me to call customer service. I called customer service and they directed me back to the dealer. After receiving the run-around and having no avenue to lodge a complaint/dispute. I decided to chalk it up to experience. Never again will I buy a John Deere they don't stand by there products and there customer service is lousy.

Pros:
Nice cut while it worked.

Cons:
Poor quality and even worse customer service.

Where I live a Tractor is like your Car or Truck. You like either John Deere or Massey-Furgason just like Ford V/S Chevy. So when I got to buy me a DEERE I was thankful and proud. Well I guess you could say I was let down after just 2yrs I started having problems. And as far as help from John Deere forget it!! I made the mistake of Buying a Deere from Home Depot instead of a dealership. When you do this and something goes wrong forget any help.! First Home-D tells you they dont do anything except sell them and the Dealerships tell you that you dont have a true JOHN DEERE; you have a off brand with a sticker kit basicly. So after I was finally told that I kept my mower to clean and that it did not need to have water spraied on it!!! Well first thing I dont need a mower that cant even get wet because this is to fragle for me, I need a small Lawn TRACTOR not a glass blade cutter that I have to worry breaking. But it did do good until the warranty ran out at 2yrs!! LOLS!!! Owell I am trading my J/D for a Toro and hopefully it will last.

Did good at first.

Cons:
Did not last and no help from John Deere. Not like the older ones.

This tractor has taken 2 years of abuse from my yard and still kicks the grass down to the proper height and makes my old reclaimed pasture of a yard look great. When a product does what I want it to do with no major breakdowns it is even better

Date Purchased: March 3, 2003
Price Paid: $2200
Recommend: Yes
Pros:
Smooth even cut even under the hardest conditions

Cons:
You do need the bumper to protect the fiberglass hood.
