Thanks for the info. Any trick to removing the pinion gear? There's a nut holding it on and I think the impeller will spin if you try to remove it.

I've inherited an MTD 5/24 snowblower of unknown vintage. Is there anyway I can find what the model # is? It seems that some one replaced the shear pins with bolts and now the gears are stripped. Also, where can I buy these parts?
