Got it, thank you very much!

I would be happy to. It is quite simple with the vent blocked air can't enter or leave the bowl. As the gas flows into the bowl through the needle it tries to raise the float at some point the pressure of the gas & the float matches the pressure of the compressed air trapped in the bowl. Unfortunately this happens before the float rises high enough to close the needle. But there is still plenty of push left in the gas as the level of the gas is much higher than the carburetor so the gas is pushed up the emulsion tube into the throat of the carburetor.

Look for a blocked vent.

That was it! Thank you much, you saved me  from buying a new carb. I still don't understand how the blocked vent could cause the problem, can someone explain?

Thanks, it has a clear plastic fuel line but I will install the filter.

Did u replace the fuel line as well?? if not i highly recommend u do... little pieces of rubber can come off the fuel line and get in the carb..also i would add a in line fuel filter aswell...

Thanks, I'll do that. I didn't boil out the carb so that may be the problem.

Tecumseh Carb Flooding

I have what I think is a tecumseh series 3 carb from an 8HP engine that I think is a model HM80? The carb started leaking after not being used for some time. I installed most of a rebuild kit which included a new needle and seat. I've read up on how to do this and I think I have done everthing right? The spring that attaches to the float has the pointed end pointing towards the choke. The seat has the groove facing the carb body. It still leaks like it did before the kit installation. When feeding fuel to the carb, with the bowl off, I can stop the flow of gas by gently pushing up on the float. The float has no fuel in it, I hear nothing when I shake it and it floats in water with no bubbles coming from it. It acts like the needle is not making contact with the seat to stop the flow of fuel? Any ideas?

Thanks
