Re: Toro Personal Pace issues

I just tore it apart and here's what I found:

The pinion on the end of the axle that goes into the wheel spins one direction freely.  If turned the opposite direction, it should "catch" and lock into place.  That's the way it's working on the wheel that spins on mine.  The wheel that no longer spins doesn't "catch" regardless of which direction I turn it.

The way it looks like it's working is that pinion should "catch" the axle and then turn the gear box.  I.E., I don't think it's the axle and gearbox not performing correctly, I think there's something wrong with the pinion mounted on the wheels end of the axle.

Here's a link to what I am talking about---look at number 4

Any thoughts on how to replace that, or if that's even the problem?

Thanks!

Toro Personal Pace issues

My Toro Personal Pace 21" 6.5hp is about 5 years old now and has performed great!  Unfortunately, I think age has caught a bit on the drive system.  If I push the handle, the mower moves, but only the right wheel is spinning and it's spinning so fast, it can't get traction---i.e. all the power is directed to that one wheel.  Worse is the fact that I can hear that the left is trying to engage, but it doesn't.  It sounds like marbles in a can.  Aomost like plastic gears are clicking and not catching.  Not a comforting sound.

I take the unit arpart every year and clean and grease it and always wash the unit when I am done cutting.  I know I had it back together correctly because it worked fine at the beginning of the season.

So, any ideas on what might be going on?  Also, where do you folks buy parts from for this unit online?  I know I need a new right rear tire as it's bald now from spinning.

Thanks!
