snowblower wheels loose torque?
Original Message   Mar 2, 2005 12:42 pm
In the last storm here in MA , I noticed  a loss of power to the wheels. That is to say the wheels were turning if I lifted the unit odd the ground but didnt seem to have much "torque" .    I will double check the friction wheel platter to make sure it didnt get some oil on it.   Other than that  are there adjustment that need to be done to the drive system?

FYI   the blower is a 1980? 2 stage Yard-man with the  5 hp tec engine.

25 years old eh?  sounds like a worn friction disc to me.  Could be a belt adjustment is in order too, but i'm bettin on the drive disc.

Is the drive belt slipping under load? Wasn't someone complaining about stamped steel pulleys?

i would start it up and try to duplicate ths problem.

when it occurs ...with the drive lever engaged  in low gear, pull the cable that it connects to and note the difference.

if it will pull normally then you just have to adjust the traction cable.

there is a nut on the bottom of the cable inside the coil spring.

you will have to flip off the cable from the handle.

turn the nut a couple turns at a time .

overadjustment will damage the friction wheel.

let us know how you make out.
