Will a LH318SA Camshaft work in a LH358SA?
Original Message   Nov 20, 2011 10:18 pm
I have a new LH358SA with a single shaft.  I have a good used extended camshaft from a LH318SA and the cover.  Will the camshaft from the 8.5hp work in the 10hp engine.  I need to turn this LH358SA into a dual shaft engine.  Thanks for any help.

I don’t have specific info about the swap.  Those model numbers are generic and cover many engines.  If you listed the specific engine numbers it would help.

You could get the factory model number of the 8.5 cam and google it to see what drawings that cam shows up in…i.e….if it ever shows up in a 358.

An LH318SA, HMSK90 uses 909303B for an external cam.

   An LH358SA, HMSK110 uses 911300

   An LH358SA, HMSK110 uses 911361B

So even the LH358SA’s can use a different external cam.

If you have both available you could mic them.

I’ve swapped out a a few 5hp’s and an 8hp but they were all similar models and years.

There’s a Tecumseh Yahoo forum and you would ask there.  T-man used to hang out there and was a super source for info.

I have swapped a single shaft H70 cam and front sump into a dual shaft H60.

I say just switch them and see what happens.

The blown engine is a LH318SA-156571H.  The new engine is a LH358SA-159615.  I have everything to handle the difference in the crank shafts, but I need the old cam in the new motor.  I hate to tear apart a brand new engine for nothing.

No luck on getting a cross for the cam.
