MTD Snow Thrower 2 Stage 31A-611D129
Original Message   Feb 15, 2010 6:51 pm
Just replaced the auger belt 754-0430 account original belt strethed/torn one piece and auger not turning. After a few auger turns, the rib section of the new new belt chewed away with black powder on the groung. What went wrong here and what do I need to do? No manual or drawings to work on and no problems with the machine in the past. Thanks

On this Model series there is a built in brake. you can not see it from the top when replacing the belt. if you feel down the right side (when standing behind the unit) of the pulley there is a metal tab that the belt should be under. Most likely you put the belt around the tab and it shredded the inside. I hope this helps.
