Briggs 11 hp on a Rider
Original Message   Sep 8, 2009 9:04 pm
I have an older Roper Rally riding lawn mower with an 11hp briggs motor model 252707-0672-01.

I used to use this thing all the time then I let it sit for 2 years and now whenever I try to use it, the thing dies on me.

I can start it and let it run (on choke) just fine.  Starts right away and idles pretty good.  Problem is as soon as I change the throttle to run it'll die, no matter how long I let it idle.
I have taken the carb apart and cleaned the needle valve and the float.  Still have the same problem.
I've also used the manufacturer's specs on how far to turn both the needle valve and the idle valve and still nothing.

Also trying to use the mower with it in choke will not work.  anytime I put load on the motor it dies.

My question is this a carb problem or could it be more serious such as a compression problem?

Thanks in advance.
Bryan

oh and yes, the air filter is brand new and the spark plug is clean.

What I think you need to clean is the carb nozzel or the carb nozzel needle... If you take the needle out from the top, you can take the bowl off and remove the nozzle from the carb tower (the post that float hole fits over)...

Tried cleaning it but it still didn't work... so I ended up buying a carb rebuild kit.  And now it runs great.

Thanks for the suggestion though.
