Ariens 1128LE- Help with Removal of Gear Box
Original Message   Feb 7, 2009 6:51 pm
I have an Ariens 1128LE Snowblower.  Model No. 924121.  I am trying to replace the gear box (52413400) and bearing (05406300).  How do I get the two pins that hold the impeller on the worm gear.  I tried hammering them thru, but the work space is too tight to put a lot of force on the pin.  Any suggestions?  Also, once I get the pins out, how do I remove the worm gear from the hub.  I hear this is difficult, but any suggestions would be helpful.  Mark

You need a roll pin driver to remove the impeller. Same for the gear. The effort needed will depend on how rusted on the fan is (on the worm shaft) or how much the shaft is tweaked from snapping shear bolts. Make sure you replace the hardware with OEM parts if you destroy anything taking it apart. The groove pin that holds the gear on isn't a plain low carbon groove pin.
