lawn is mostly flat , no snow removal , live in SE NC, I only use the mower, not to many trees to mowe around.  looking for something with a constant speed.  Looking at JD mowers because of reliability mostly

I would consider a ZTR. Flat land, no tractor needs, easy to keep the same speed and get's it done fast.

Deere has ZTR's, their 7 Iron series has three different size catagories to choose from, the mini would be fine for you.

Also check Snappers Fast cut ZTR and Exmarks Lazer Z's.

I like those joysticks that the Snappers have.

You've gotten good recommendations on ZTR mowers, and they would do a nice and quick job cutting your lawn. If a tractor is what you prefer, for whatever reason, I'd recommend the Cub Cadet SLT1554, or Deere LT180, or LT190, or Simplicity Broadmoor or Massey Ferguson 2600 (clone of Simplicity Broadmoor). If you are on a tighter budget and looking to keep the costs below $2000, then your choices are Deere "L" series, Cub 1000 series and Craftsman, and I'd probably recomment the Craftsman DYT4000, as the best value for the $$$$.

From what I understand Deere does. Do you have different info?
