Re: Eureka Boss Smart Vac 4870 Series: How to shut off Brush Roll?
#1   Mar 5, 2009 2:14 pm
CarmineD and Dusty,

Thanks for responding to my note.  I am happy to say the problem is now resolved!

I just was not using enough pressure.  After reading the above, I pushed against the plastic lever with much more force until it clicked into place.  I am normally reluctant to force anything plasic because it will usually break on me.  In this case, nothing broke and it now works as expected.  I was surprised that it took that much pressure for a plastic part.   I hope it holds up over time.

Thanks for all of your help.

Eureka Boss Smart Vac 4870 Series: How to shut off Brush Roll?
#2   Mar 5, 2009 12:37 am
Hello All,

We have two Eureka Boss Smart Vac 4870 series in the family.   I am unable to figure out how to turn off the power nozzle brush roll when vacuuming hard surface floors.

The Boss has a slide lever on the top of the power nozzle with two position choices.  One  position is "Carpet" and the other is "Bare Floor".  (Actually, one machine says Bare and the other says Hard.)  The power nozzle brush roll is activated when the lever is in the Carpet position, and it is turned off when in the Bare Floor position.   The problem I am having is getting the lever to stay locked in the Bare Floor position.  The minute I let go of the lever, it immediately slides back to the Carpet position and the brush roll starts back up.  This occurs when the push handle is in the lowered position for sweeping.  When the push handle is locked in the upright postion, the brush roll is turned off as expected.

I have noticed one slight difference between the two machines.  On the newer one, when the push handle is returned to the upright locked position, you can see the lever change position from Carpet to Bare Floor,   On the older machine, the lever does not move when locking the push handle in the upright position.

I do not know if the above problem is due to an operating error on my part, or if something is broken.  I have read a review on another web site that said this feature has a design flaw, causing a high failure rate and an expensive repair.   The one machine is not that old, so I am thinking I am doing something wrong.  Here is all I could find in the online manual, but it was not much help.

>>>  Brush Roll Control. Flip this lever to choose between cleaning hard floors and carpeting. Brush roll is “off” for hard floors and “on” for carpets  <<<

I would appreciate any insight you can offer.  Please let me know if I need to provide a more detailed description of the problem.

Thanks.
