Replacing control cable on Hoover U6433900

I need to replace the control cable on my Hoover U6433900 PowereDrive vacuum. It looks like I have to disassemble the handle. I have tried to do that by unscrewing all the visible screws but the handle does not just come apart. Is there some special trick to doing this?
